Hebr.11:6, ‘But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.’ Had the man not believed, would the ‘rhema’ become effective ? No ! Though this man did not see any evidence of his son being healed, his faith enabled him to receive the rhema from logos and to know and believe deep inside his heart that his son lives just as Jesus said. He could send His word because of the faith of the concerned father. the communicated word from God to our spirit. The words Jesus spoke i.e ‘Go your way your son lives’ is the revealed word of God i.e.

But His purpose here was to let known the power of His word by healing the sick son at the right time. It’s true that no situation is too late for God to perform. Jesus knew that his physical transportation might be too late to let His purposes be established. Friends, He cares for us more than our earthly parents. Jesus realized the emergency of the situation better than sick son’s own father. Logos released rhema, which reached the situation immediately. What exactly had happened here ? Jesus ,the ‘Word’ in flesh (logos) spoke the words and Jesus, as the words of God (rhema) reached the sick son. Rhema – the words Jesus spoke which served the purpose of that particular situation. Logos – Jesus, the Son of God, the Word of God in flesh, whom the man approached.Ģ. Here we clearly see the two stages of the Word of God :ġ. But He sent His word and healed the son of the concerned father. Though this man pleaded Jesus to come to his house, Jesus did not go. Note that this is different from the similar cases of healing we read in Mathew 8 and Luke 7. In this particular passage, we see a nobleman from Capernaum approaching and pleading Jesus to come to his sick son in his house, who was almost on the verge of death. Rhema has a spiritual application that sets it apart from the Logos. In other words, it’s essential to receive a particular revelation from the word every day in our lives to experience the power of His word in our lives.

Till the logos gets transformed to rhema, the power and glory of logos remain locked as a thought or a message. And when the rhema is proclaimed, the power of logos is released, communicated and established. In the above mentioned verse, we see ‘the Word’ i.e. The logos is the bible in its wholeness whereas rhema is a particular verse from the Bible. Logos is the message while rhema is the communication of the message. While Jesus is designated as the ‘Word of God’, the words Jesus spoke is termed as ‘rhema’. But the distinctive feature of John’s gospel is the use of logos in the designation of Jesus. John used ‘logos’ in both representing the message of Jesus and also the divine word about Jesus. In Greek, this concept is termed as ‘logos’. Jesus, as ‘His Word’ was always with God. It also means that ‘the Word’ is God Himself. It simply means that existence of Jesus was there as always as God was. It had begun long back……even before the creation of this world….even before the time began. Jn.1:1, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.’ While presenting Jesus as the Word of God and God Himself, John also stroke an great resemblance with the very first verse of the Bible….Gen.1:1, ’In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.’ These verses together show that the history of ‘the Word’ did not begin with the gospel of John. He declared this truth very boldly in the very 1st verse of this book. The gospel of Luke presents Christ as the Son of Man, while John presents Him as God Himself. The gospel of Mathew presents Jesus as the king of Jews, while the gospel of Mark presents Jesus as the Servant of God. One of the points that makes it unique is regarding the presentation of Jesus. 51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!”’ Jn.4:50-51, ‘Jesus said to him, “Go your way your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Je-sus spoke to him, and he went his way.
